Yep, that’s me. You’re probably wondering what kind of writer I am.

Well, by the time I was a second-grader slingin’ free Tootsie Rolls on SoCal sidewalks, I was already a hardcore consumer of my mom’s People magazines.

My tendency to consume periodicals at Super Bowl parties was finally justified when I went to J-school and got my first media gig fact-checking at New York magazine. I’m currently a Senior Editor at D Magazine.

As a journalist, I have sniffed a Cowboy kicker’s cleat, watched a Vogue model get ready for prom, walked with baby elephants, and elicited a genuine laugh from a notoriously guarded First Lady. My blog post cataloging the many deaths in Adolphus Hotel history became fodder for My Favorite Murder.

Inside the D Mag offices, you may hear editors refer to a particular type of longform feature as “A Holland Story,” perhaps best defined by my colleague as a story in which the writer “hangs out at various people’s elbows until you forget you’re not there yourself.”

In the dozen years I’ve earned paychecks by typing, I’ve written a hundred-plus magazine stories; edited a front-of-book section; crafted grant proposals for non-profits; and worked as a copywriter for print catalogs, newspaper ads, websites, special advertising sections, and social channels. My favorite projects are the collaborative ones; I love working closely with photographers, art directors, and other creatives.

When I’m not officing at the Half Price Books flagship, I’m typing in the East Dallas home that I share with a bunch of boys, including a 90-pound mutt named Cutty Wagstaff.
